May/June Update

Dear Friends,

Interest in the Alzheimer’s Germ Quest $1 Million Challenge Award continues to gain momentum. Here is an update of our progress:

STRENGTHENING CONNECTIONS:

In late April, the team met with Dr. Paul Auwaerter and Dr. Cynthia Sears, at Johns Hopkins Medical Center, division of infectious diseases, in Baltimore. Dr. Auwaerter is president of the Infectious Diseases Society of America and Dr. Sears is its president-elect.

FOLLOWING RESEARCH:

The team visited Dr. Rudolph Tanzi, Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School and Director of the Genetics and Aging Research laboratory at Massachusetts General Hospital.

DISCOVERING NEW AREAS OF INTEREST:

The team learned more about the programs and research funded by the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund when they traveled to the Fund’s headquarters near Boston and met with its President and CEO Tim Armour.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH:

At a recent meeting of the Rotary Club of Bonita Springs, Florida, Dr. Leslie Norins gave his “10 Clues There May be an Alzheimer’s Germ” presentation. This chapter participates in the CART Fund, which collects donations from members to help fund grants in Alzheimer’s research.
